The Pokémon Company International has released full information regarding the 2023 Pokémon World Championships Fantasy Team, a skill-based sweepstakes in which Trainers can use their knowledge of the Pokémon Trading Card Game and Pokémon Video Games to submit their predictions of which Pokémon will dominate the 2023 Pokémon World Championships. This sweepstakes is open only to Trainers aged 18 or older who are currently residing in the 50 United States or the District of Columbia. Trainers must have a Pokémon Trainer Club account to sign up for this sweepstakes, with registration closing on August 10th, at 8am (PDT).

For this sweepstakes, Trainers will build up to two teams on the Fantasy Team page: one Pokémon TCG team consisting of six cards, and/or one Pokémon VG team consisting of six Pokémon. Changes may be made to the submitted teams at any time until all teams are locked in when entries close on August 10th, at 8am (PDT). Participants may only select one Pokémon per grouping to form their team of six for the TCG team. For the VG Fantasy Team, participants may select two Pokémon from the Pokémon newly available in Regulation D, and one Pokémon from each of the following groups: Pokémon from Paldea, Paradox Pokémon, Treasure of Ruin, and Returning Pokémon.

Points will be granted for each selection that appears in the Top 8 Masters Division teams for the Pokémon TCG and Pokémon Video Games, according to the following rules:

TCG
When tallying Pokémon TCG points, points will only apply once if the card appears in the list, not for each copy of the selected card.
  • 48 points per selection in 1st place competitor's list
  • 24 points per selection in 2nd place competitor's list
  • 12 points per selection in 3rd and 4th place competitors' lists
  • 6 points per selection in 5th through 8th place competitors' lists
VG
  • 16 points per selection in 1st place competitor's team
  • 8 points per selection in 2nd place competitor's team
  • 4 points per selection in 3rd and 4th place competitors' teams
  • 2 points per selection in 5th through 8th place competitors' teams
Fantasy Team results will be posted on or before August 17th, by 11:59pm (PDT) on the 2023 Pokémon World Championships website. In the event that tiebreakers are needed, tiebreaker questions will be used to stratify scores. For the TCG, the tiebreaker question is whichever participant most closely estimates the total number of cards in each player’s discard pile at the end of the final game. For Video Games, the tiebreaker question is whichever participant most closely estimates the current hit points of the Pokémon who deals the final blow. Should a tie persists, the participant who submitted their entry first will be given priority.

Winners will need to provide a valid U.S. mailing address in their Pokémon Trainer Club account profile by August 31th, at 11:59pm (PDT) in order to receive the physical prizes. If no valid U.S. address is present in their account at that time, the physical prizing will be forfeited. Results will be posted on or before August 17, 2023, by 11:59pm (PDT) on the 2023 Pokémon World Championships website.

The first 10,000 registrants to create a team in either category will receive a distribution code for a Stretchy Form Tatsugiri that can be redeemed in Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet. The top 100 finishers in each category will receive a Scarlet & Violet - Obsidian Flames Booster Box and an Umbreon Sitting Cuties Plush, while the top finisher in each category will also receive an additional jumbo Spheal Poké Plush. Participants may create teams in both the TCG and VG categories to double their chances of winning, but may only win one of each prize; only the higher placing category will be counted, and they will be removed from the scoring pool for prize determination in the other category.
